FAQS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DO I KNOW IF A MOVER IS LICENSED AND INSURED?
You can verify any mover through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration SAFER website. Click here to review our listing.
WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOUR MOVERS HAVE?
Our crews are run by Crew Chiefs who have extensive industry experience and most of the crew members we hire also come with experience. We never hire day laborers or use a labor service.
All candidates undergo a thorough hiring process that includes an in-person interview, reference check, and background check. All new hires, whether a 10-year veteran or new to the industry, work initially under the supervision of our Operations Manager and Senior Crew Chiefs until they are fully trained.
DO YOU WORK IN ‘BAD’ WEATHER?
This is New England, so bad weather comes with the territory. We do work in most conditions, but we also care about the safety of our employees. There are occasions where severe weather will force us to reschedule your move, either by doing it earlier or postponing.
We play close attention to the weather reports and will typically call you a couple of days prior if there is a severe storm expected to discuss rescheduling options. In the event of a postponement , it is our goal to get your move done as soon as possible
(Note: In snow and icy conditions we do ask that you arrange for driveways and walkways to be cleared and sanded to avoid the potential for injury.)
DO YOU CHARGE FOR THE TIME YOUR TRUCKS ARE DRIVING TO OUR MOVE AND RETURN TRIP AFTER THE MOVE IS OVER?
For local moves that are billed on an hourly rate, it is typical for movers to charge ‘Portal-to-Portal’, meaning from the time trucks leave our facility until the time they arrive back after your move.
For long-distance moves, our fee is based on the weight of your shipment and the total mileage being driven, regardless of travel time.
DO YOU MOVE PIANOS AND/OR OTHER LARGE ITEMS?
Yes, in most cases. Please let us know about any items like pianos, pool tables, large safes and adjustable beds when you contact us, so that we can make adequate arrangements for a safe move.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE LARGE APPLIANCES FOR MOVING?
- Refrigerators and freezers: Please empty the contents and disconnect water lines.
- Washing machines and hot tubs: Please make sure water lines and drainage hoses are disconnected. (Don’t forget to shut off the main water valve before disconnecting and have towels and a bucket on hand for any spillage.)
- Gas appliances: Please contact your gas company to disconnect and reconnect these appliances.
(Due to liability, we are unable to disconnect/reconnect water lines, gas lines, etc.)
WILL YOU DISASSEMBLE AND REASSEMBLE FURNITURE IF NEEDED?
Yes, disassembly and reassembly of your furniture is part of our standard service. However, please be aware of the following:
We do not reassemble cribs or bunk beds due to liability.
Our crew carries basic tools, but you will need to provide any specialty tools if needed. We can re-assemble furniture that our crew did not disassemble, but cannot be responsible for missing parts or any issues with the furniture after reassembly since we have no knowledge of any issues that existed prior to disassembly. For any powered furniture (beds, recliners, etc.) we require that you have an owner’s manual on hand. Due to their complexity and the number of different models being sold our crew cannot be responsible for proper disassembly & reassembly without the ability to reference manufacturer’s
instructions.
DO I NEED TO BE THERE DURING THE MOVE?
Yes. You or someone you designate should be present at all times to instruct the crew on what items are being moved, where they should be placed in the new home, etc. You will also be needed to do a walk-through of the property when we have finished loading the truck and another walk-through at the delivery to confirm everything has been done to your liking.
If your circumstances will make it impossible for you or a designee to be present for your entire move, please let us know in advance, so that special arrangements can be discussed.
CAN I HELP WITH THE MOVE?
For liability reasons, we cannot allow anyone but our workers to get on the truck(s) or assist in the transporting of furniture and other large objects. But you are welcome to carry in boxes or other smaller items if you insist!
WHAT IF MY MOVE CAN’T BE DONE IN JUST ONE DAY?
If your shipment needs to be kept on our truck(s) overnight, or even for a full day, the truck cargo box will be locked and the truck will be parked in our secure lot and kept under video surveillance. (A ‘hold on truck’ fee would apply)
If your delivery must be delayed by more than a day or two, we will typically off-load your items into our storage facility and load them back onto a truck to make delivery (labor and storage costs would apply).
